Wireless Beach Access
keeping you connected
Wi-Fi Modem
The Wireless Beach Access (WBA) WiFi network signal will generally be stronger outdoors or in hallways of buildings because the WBA’s WiFi nodes are strategically placed throughout Rehoboth and Dewey Beach on rooftops and in the hallways of condominiums. The radio waves they send out don't travel well through walls or other barriers such as trees. If you want to use the service indoors and your signal is not strong where you want to use it, we suggest purchasing a WiFi modem. A Wireless WiFi modem acts as a larger antenna, with a stronger transmitter, to aide in accessing the WBA WiFi network.
You can purchase the Wi-Fi modem from WBA with your yearly subscription. Your MetroFlex will be Professional configured and sent to along with your WBA marketing material, which tells customers that your unit offers complimentary internet. All Wi-Fi modems must be Professional configured if the modem is to be installed in a multi dwelling unit (MDU).
A Ruckus wireless modem is required in order to receive onsite support for unit connections unless unit is within a building offering complimentary service.
This high-powered Wi-Fi modem that sits in your unit to help you better connect to the WBA Wi-FI Network. While this device is not required to connect to the WBA network, it is recommended for users who are indoors or are farther away from the WBA signal. Laptop wireless cards have a limited range and work best within 300 feet from a WBA access point, with minimal obstructions. When trying to connect outdoors from a distance greater than 300 feet or inside a building, we recommend that you purchase a Wi-Fi modem. Our customers have reported success with indoor Wi-Fi modems. WBA has tested the Wi-Fi modem and has found it to be an improvement over built-in notebook radios and low power PCMI Wi-Fi cards. Other devices may work as well.
